Recovery is slowing down
by Magdalena Rosova

Wednesday was a hard day for New York's stock market, investors were very careful as they were waiting for the new reports with information about the pace of recovery. A key report is the one on durable goods, it will show if orders rose last month or not. The Federal Reserve will release its report soon and it will show the state of the country's economy. Fed chairman Ben Bernanke said last week that future growth was uncertain. His words led to a massive sell-off in stocks. Investors are worried, because they expected Bernanke to reassure them that rebound is here. Investors have a difficult task to balance their earnings and corporate outlooks with economic data. But the! data is not as positive as forecasts of the companies' executives. It is quite complicated to orientate in suh mixed reports. That led to down day in the market also on Tuesday. Economic data proved that the recovery is slowing down and that the growth will probably not grow much. Durable goods orders fell 0.6 percent in May but in June they rose 1 percent. The growth is believed to be caused by large new orders for Boeing aircraft. Without the transportation orders the durable goods orders rose only 0.3 percent. Other data showed that the recovery in the manufacturing sector has eased. Dow Jones industrial average, an important stock market index, fell 0.2 percent. Other indexes are falling as well. But positive is that bond prices rose a bit on Wednesday. The United States are not the only country with easing recovery. Important economy indexes in European countries dropped as well. Only Japan's Nikkei stock average jumped 2.7 percent.

Oživenie ekonomiky sa spomaľuje
by Magdalena Rosova

Americans spent less in June
by Zivka Deleva

People in the United States of America have spent less money in the last month, say the Wall Street’s reports. The stocks have fallen but not too much, because the previous three days there were big earnings. The industry on the other hand noted increase for 7 points. These resaults seem normal, when we are aware of the slow improvement on the job market. That is normal for the consumers’ apetite to be measured by the money people earn. The recession is far from being finished. And I suppose that Americans shouldn’t expact that miricles will happen because the economic fall was really a big one, like falling from a hundred floors building. The industry h! as another rules, I suppose, because there happened a opposite situation. All the important industrial indexes have raised. That even surprised economic analysts that weren’t so optimistic about the whole thing. But they all agree that this can’t last too long as long as the job places don’t increase as soon as possible. "I don't know what turns around confidence aside from jobs growth," John Brady, a senior vice president at MF Global in Chicago said. I want to share a personal experience with how I see the unemployment. If I know about dozens people that live in the States, and almost half of them can’t find job, than yes, we really have problems. The analysts have also found that the number of the bought homes has increased but that that is not going to last a long time, and that it’s been due to the homebuyer's tax credit that expired April 30. USA’s rival, the old lady Europe the last month definitly won the fight. The banks have ! noted good work, especially the German ones.

Another Oversight Council?!
by Barbora Misakova

We watch. At least we try to watch. Every move that is made and every word that is said is watched. But in reality, all that watching is worthless when bad moves are made and bad words are said anyway. All those “oversight councils” we established in the past learned us nothing. We are relying on these watching apparatuses instead of thinking twice. Instead of teaching our children to be honest rely on someone or something else that should control their behavior. And in this way the worst bureaucratic procedures were created. And these procedures can always be avoided especially when people were not raised well. This is just the case of new banking and consumer ! protection bill that is awaiting President Barack Obama’s signature. As senator Richard Shelby of Alabama pointed out, the bill is not “real reform” because it doesn’t address the problems of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and what is more it will create a massive bureaucracy. Among the first impacts of the bill will be the immediate creation of a 10-member Financial Stability Oversight Council which should keep watch over the entire financial system. Obama now has one year to create a new Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection which will have vast powers to enforce regulations covering mortgages, credit cards and other financial products. But will it change anything? Will it take the time back and save the world from the last economic crisis? No, of course not, but I hardly believe it can save us from another one.
