The virus called Greece spreads today as well. After Portugal was hit with bad place at the ranking of the rating agency Standard and Poor’s yesterday, today it is time for its neighbor – Spain. This country isn’t as bad as Portugal, it has downgraded in one notch, maybe that is not so alarming, but it shows the connection between the economies of the countries in the euro zone. Spain is considered the fourth biggest economy in this zone. The most worried seems to be German Chancellor Andrea Merkel, who is quite in a hurry when it comes to the negotiations between the Greek government, the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund. As time g! oes by, European politicians are more and more concerned how to solve the big issue. The international help for impoverished Greece must come as soon as possible, so the consequences for the European people are going to be less. The common currency continues to fall, and Standard and Poor’s ratings go on with bad grades for the countries with the worst economies in the European Union. It is really strange, how comes a country with such a small economy like Greece is, to have such a huge influence on the others? The compassion and the readiness to help come as well from the US President Barack Obama. He tries to spread optimism but doesn’t mention concrete measures or even bailout for Greece. Europe is drowned in debts. More or less, each government is still trying to recover from the recession, and the thought of giving away a sum of money for someone else, isn’t so easy to be digested.

La faux grecque comme un virus by Zivka Deleva

La Grèce continue à faire des ennuis à ses amis européens. Je pense que je ne devrais pas même les appeler de bons amis, parce que personne ne désire pas d'être amis avec quelqu'un qui perd, quelqu'un qui vit au compte de quelqu'un d'autre. Cette fois, l'euro est tombé d’1.5 pour cent aujourd'hui en comparant au dollar et au Yen, et les marchés boursiers perdent leur combat. Les analystes ont peur que la crise de la Grèce puisse influencer d'autres pays endettés à la mesure qu’ils partageront la même histoire. Cette fois apparemment, le choix se dirige au Portugal. La principale agence de répu! tation de solvabilité Standard and Poor a donné à la dette du gouvernement grec le statut - l'ordure. La même agence a mis le Portugal seulement deux rangs au-dessous de la Grèce ce qui démontre qu’il a des économies assez restreintes. La Grande-Bretagne, l'Allemagne, la France, toutes leurs économies et les estimations d'actions sont tombées. Tout le monde redoute que l'Europe n’ait pas réussi de résoudre les problèmes des Grecs. Les amis européens déjà considérés d’avoir exclu la Grèce de leur liste d’amitié tandis qu'elle est en train de se stabiliser. La Grèce adjuge pour 45 milliards d’euros de renflouement pour que le pays puisse se tenir sur ses pieds. « Les chances d'un défaut par le gouvernement grec augmentent pas par jour mais par chaque heure. Si le FMI et des gouvernements européens ne s’interposent pas immé! diatement, je vois donc que le marché va descendant vraim! ent rapi dement. Les investisseurs commencent à réagir avec émotion – a dit Koen De Leus, économiste chez KBC Securities. Les politiciens européens sont dévastateurs et doivent prendre toutes mesures pour que la dette infectieuse soit arrêtée. Ils ont la grande responsabilité maintenant de toutes les nations qui s'appellent Européens. Aujourd'hui c'est vraiment désagréable d’être Grec, à la mesure où toute l'Europe appellera votre pays « un virus contagieux ».

Greece continues to make troubles to her European friends. I think I should not even call them good friends, because no one wants to be friends with a loser, someone that lives on the back of someone else. This time, the euro fell 1.5 percent today compared to the dollar and the yen, and the stock markets are losing the fight. The analysts are afraid that Greek’s crises can influence other debt countries to share the same history. This time apparently, the choice goes to Portugal. The leading credit rating agency Standard and Poor’s gave the debt of the Greek government the status of junk. The same agency put Portugal two places lower and that shows how tightly! bonded economies are. Britain, Germany, France, all their economies and stock ratings fell. The world around is scared that Europe didn’t succeed to solve Greeks problems. European friends already considered to remove Greece from their fellowship while it gets stabilized. Greece is begging for the 45 billion euro bailout so the country could stand on its feet. “The chances of a default by the Greek government are increasing not by the day but by the hour. If the IMF and European governments don't come up with something quickly, then I see the market going down further quite rapidly. Investors are starting to react emotionally - said Koen De Leus, economist at KBC Securities. European politician are devastating and must take all the measures for the dept infectiousness to be stopped. They have big responsibility now for the whole nations that call themselves Europeans. It is really unpleasant today to be Greek, as far as the whole Europe will call your country! a “contagious virus”.

Zisky spoločnosti Apple prekonávajú očakávania analytikov z Wall Street by Zuzana Zelenakova

iPhone spoločnosti Apple má taký úspech, že posunul jej zisky do neuveriteľných výšok. Dokonca prekonali aj očakávania analytikov z Wall Street. V poslednom štvrťroku boli zisky z iPhone-u vyššie než v akomkoľvek inom štvrťroku. Takisto aj akcie spoločnosti si v tomto roku polepšili o 15 percent a v piatok dosiahli rekordnú výšku. Apple informoval, že v poslednom štvrťroku predal 8,8 miliónov iPhone-ov, 2.9 miliónov Mac-ov a 10,9 miliónov iPod-ov. „Predajnosť iPhone-u sa vyšplhala do rekordných vý! 53;ok,“ povedal Peter Oppenheimer, hlavný finančný riaditeľ spoločnosti, v utorok. Obdobie od januára do marca nazval „doteraz najlepším neprázdninovým štvrťrokom“. V tomto období Apple predal viac prenosných počítačov než klasických desktopov, no množstvo predaných desktopov vzrástol z 36 percent v štvrtom štvrťroku 2009 na 39 percent. Analytici z Wall Street sa prirodzene živo zaujímali o novinku iPad, ktorú Apple uviedol na trh 3. apríla, len pár dní po skončení prvého štvrťroku. „Keď sme stanovovali cenu iPad-u, stanovili sme ju dosť vysoko,“ povedal Tim Cook, hlavný prevádzkový riaditeľ. „Myslíme si, že trh pre iPad je dostatočne veľký, a chceli sme našu výhodu zužitkovať.“ Tak! isto naznačil, že Apple by mohol ísť s cen! ou iPad- u v budúcnosti dolu, podobne ako to bolo v prípade iPhone-u. Apple sa takisto vyjadril k nedostatočným zásobám nového tabletu a opäť potvrdil, že do konca mája ho bude predávať len rámci Spojených štátov. „Záujem bol oveľa väčší než sme predpokladali,“ povedal Cook. „Zvyšujeme produkciu a uvidíme ako sa to bude vyvíjať ďalej. Ale takáto úroveň dopytu nás naozaj ohromila.“ Ako tvrdí vedenie spoločnosti, Apple neustále pracuje na vylepšovaní výrobkov pre svojich zákazníkov, no aj na ňom sa podpísala kríza. Ľudia si ešte stále strážia peňaženky a vyberajú si výrobky z nižších cenových kategórií.

Apple revenue exceeds Wall Street expectations by Zuzana Zelenakova

Apple´s iPhone is such a success that it boosted the company´s latest profits to incredible heights. It exceeded even Wall Street´s expectations. In the last quarter sales of iPhone were higher than in any other quarter. Apple´s stock jumped up about 15 percent this year and reached a record high on Friday. According to the company reports, it sold about 8.8 million iPhones, 2.9 million Macs and 10.9 million iPods in the last quarter. "iPhone sales were at an all-time high," said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's chief financial officer Tuesday. He called January-March period Apple's "best non-holiday quarter ever." Apple sold more laptops than desktops last q! uarter, but number of shipped desktops increased from 36 percent in 2009´ fourth quarter to 39 percent. Wall Street analysts were naturally curious about the iPad, which Apple launched on April 3, only few days after the end of the first quarter. "When we priced the iPad , we priced it very aggressively," said Tim Cook, the company´s chief operating officer. "We think the market for the iPad is very large, and we wanted to capitalize on our advantage." He also suggested that Apple might reduce the price of iPad later, similarly as it did with iPhone. Apple also commented on the low iPad supply levels and confirmed once again it would not sell the tablet outside the US until the end of May. "Sales have been much, much stronger than we predicted," Cook said. "We are adding [production] capability, and we'll see where this thing goes. But it has shocked us, this level of demand." As Apple officials claim the company is still working on enhancing the products for thei! r consumers, but the global crisis left some marks. People are! still a bit careful about their money and choose lower-priced products.

Wall Street clashes with the White House over financial regulation by Zuzana Zelenakova

Following the recent financial crisis, from which the whole world is still recovering, the Obama administartion is trying to introduce large-scale modification of financial regulation. Wall Street, among others, is worried about their profits. But the Obama administration is pressing hard, as it has made this point one of its priorities, and the Republicans are complaining that these steps could put the economy slowly emerging from the crisis at risk once again. President Barrack Obama met with congressional leaders Wednesday morning to "turn up the pressure for an overhaul of Wall Street regulations". The Senate is planning to introduce the changes in less than two weeks.! Republicans were quick to announce they would stand against Democrats in this one, as they do not approve of the extent of the revamp. Shortly before the closed meeting president Obama addressed the reporters to say that he was "absolutely confident that the bill that emerges is going to be a bill that prevents bailouts. That's the goal." "If there's one lesson that we've learned," he said, "it's that an unfettered market where people are taking huge risks and expecting taxpayers to bail them out when things go sour is simply not acceptable." He also stressed the need for tighter regulation of derivatives that are extremely risky. Derivatives are basically contracts between two or more parties where tha value of the contract is derived from the fluctuations in the underlying asset. Generally, they are used to hedge risk, but can be also used for speculation. Senate republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentuckyis still strongly convinced that the bill "will lead to endless! taxpayer bailouts of Wall Street banks." He compared the situ! ation to the health care reform. "Put together a partisan bill, then jam it through on a strictly partisan basis."

It seems like the world of technologies will never have serious problems. Until we decide stop using them, but there is little probability that will ever happen. Computers are already used in all spheres of our daily lives; we simply got used on them. That is the reason why technology makers, particularly Intel Corporation, foresee a gross margin. Intel supposed that businesses and consumers will speed up spending after 2009 tough times. They expected a gross margin of 64 percent, plus or minus a couple percentage points. While Wall Street is foreseeing about 60 percent, Intel got on track to potentially surpass the record 64.7 percent. It seems the tech sector is slowly re! covering. Its shares rallied – Advanced Micro Devices Inc and Texas Instruments Inc rose more than 2 percent, Microsoft Corp more than 1 percent. The whole chip market’s stock boosted 3.5 percent. As ITIC analyst Laura Didio said: “What Intel is benefiting from is the pent-up demand, because customers delayed upgrading servers and upgrading desktops over the last several years because of the downturn. They can’t delay anymore, so the floodgates have opened.” If we should compare company’s net income of $2.4 billion in the three months with $629 million in the year-ago period, we would understand what it “boosting” actually means. To get from 11 cents per share to 43 cents is really something! As Stacy Smith, Intel Chief Financial Officer said, Intel brings out a whole generation of exciting products for the industry, that’s why the demand was higher than expected.

Hlavný americký index Dow Jones v pondelok prekročil hranicu 11 000 bodov. Stalo sa tak po prvý krát od obchodovania v septembri 2008. Hoci pobyt na tejto hranici nemusí byť trvalý, nateraz znamenal isté uvolnenie na trhu. Hranica celých tisícok, 11 000, tak ako 9 000, utvára vplyvný obraz o sile americkej ekonomiky. Ak by sme Dow Jones hodnotili zo širšieho uhlu, od začiatku roka sa pohyboval medzi hodnotami 10 a 11 000. Svoje minimum, priblížením k hranici 10 000 bodov zaznamenal len jeden krát, na začiatku Februára. Odvtedy viac menej pravidelne osciluje a poh! 53;ňa sa smerom nahor.Ak by sme chceli vravieť o faktoroch nálady na trhoch, je nutné spomenúť týždenné správy o stave nezamestnanosti. Podľa všetkého sa americká situácia mierne zlepšuje. Posun od konca minulého roka, kedy nezamestnanosť zaznamenala rekordných viac ako 10 percent, nastáva pri marcových správach. Nezamestnanosť priemerne klesla na úroveň okolo deviatich percent. Ďalším významným faktorom je dianie na zámorskej pôde. Amerických investorov azda upokojilo rozhodnutie lídrov eurozóny a Medzinárodného menového fondu poskytnúť Grécku pôžičku vo výške takmer 50 miliárd eur, v prípade, že by o ňu grécka vláda požiadala. Tak sa však ešte nestalo.To, čo Dow Jones ostane dlhodobo nad hranicou ! 11 000 bodov uplyvnia udalosti nasledujúcich troch tý! ;žd ňov, keďže nastáva čas bilancovania hospodárskych výsledkov za prvý kvartál tohto roku.Svoju správu zatiaľ predložila prvá z kompozitných spoločností Dow Jones, spoločnosť Alcoa Inc. Podľa všetkého Alcoa zmenšila mierne svoj schodok oproti minulému roku a v priebehu dňa jej akcie získali 18 centov ($14,57 za akciu). Mimo obchodných hodín však klesla o 6 centov na úroveň $14,51 za kus. Dow Jones si v pondelok pridal 9 bodov a zakončil na úrovni 11 006 bodov, index S&P vzrástol o 2,11 bodov alebo 0,2 percenta na úroveň 1 196.48 a technologický Nasdaq si pridal 3,82 bodov (0,2 percenta) a zakončil na hranici 2 457.98 bodov. Cena zlata na americkom trhu všeobecne stúpala, zatiaľ čo cena ropy klesla v priemere o 58 centov na úroveň $84,34 za barel.

Death – the scary element of our times. by Milota Sidorova

It's always really hard to comment any natural disaster or a death accident. Most of the time, the reason is too simple, much too simple to get any point of view. Nature doesn't know mercy, here it comes to the rule, the stronger always wins. But this order keeps nature, or at least plants and animals in balance. No one gets more than it was supposed to be. That way, the planet can work thousands and thousands years in equlibrium. Death is natural part of life. It is not a mystification.It just happens and doesn't care if we want it or can't accept it. It just happens.But then it comes to human and feelings. We have raised human life above all other forms of life.And we try! (more or less) to keep it at any cost. But then the accident happens and we are somehow derailed out of normal life. We hear of president crashing in the plane and sudden sorrow or pain steals away our good mood. And it's strange, because people can't keep the balance, at least not fair balance. I don't know what to think about Polish disaster, of course it was tragedy, but why are we overreacting? Were those lives in the plane more valuable than other? Every day, there is seven deaths in Chinese mines, because of low safety conditions – but who does give a damn about them? There are thousands occupied all around the world, there are millions of victims of natural disasters and billion victims of civilization diseases – why don't we feel the sorrow for all of them? That would be fair. Maybe we need to clear our sense of humanity once again. We have been much too drowned by the sounds of media, stereotypes and rules we don't even like and understand the meanings! .When it comes to such situation, we should be ready to react ! with cle ar mind and soft heart. But not rape and get rape over media shock therapy and show business. Get rid of this false sorrow that stinks of money making article, show or evening news.Who are we? Can we feel on our own? Can we think on our own and realize the factor of accident in life? Quo vadis?
