Euro's instability tumbles stocks by Claudia Sonea

USA dollar is affected by the euro’s instability and by the fears over the Eurozone's debt. The American dollar dipped in spite of the bright OECD report that not only presented an increase in sales of new homes and in orders for manufactured goods, but also forecasted an increase in global growth. Analysts consider that the market is tracking the euro and the debt crisis that hit EU countries scared off investors. Worries that there could be a similar credit crunch to the one that sparked in US in 2008 and led to the global recession, determined investors to avoid risk as! sets and chose safe-haven investments like US government bonds. The Eurozone crisis is making the dollar more powerful on the market, thus American companies are paying less for taxes to other countries and the foreign manufacturer pay more to sell their products on US markets. Why is then the dollar so affected by the euro’s dip on the market? Moreover, the question that should remain is why US would support the instability between North Korea and South Korea if it is hurting the dollar. Instead of trying to mediate the conflict and get to an agreement between the two countries, Obama administration is fueling the misunderstanding. As the EU has more countries and thus more economies to look for, the situation might be unstable for the moment, but it could change due to the new EU and IMF plan to bailout countries hit by the debt crisis and to the new austerity measures. Some analyst said this “crisis” was exceptional because of deadly amount of sharp increases and deep decreases in stock value. But it seems the values have followed this mood even “after” the crisis. This brings serious consequences, for instance European “crisis” has been translated as the try to escape financial markets. But how could money escape such hystery and disbalance? News from all over the world say IMF has been lending 750 billion euros to euro-zone members, just to get avoid the crisis. But what does it means to lend 750 billion euros? It means for IMF to print 750 billion euros more and to devalue the current euro rate. So,! there is not more money with actual background, there is just more papers. And news say financial markets follow these steps. And they do, but actually it is all dependent upon them. So far, they've showed great instability. Indexes are able to gain several hundreds of points in just few hours, then loose even twice more points the next hour. Trading has become the matter of seconds, while countries with millions of inhabitants are dependent on these markets.Surely, this is not leading into development and economy growth. Printing more paper and call them investment is not a growth at all. On the contrary it is a dilution of euro value. This trend, if not seriously stabilized is only leading into hyperinflation and total loss of currency value. And it's been not that distant history. It has happened several time past hundred years.

Greek Tragedy by Claudia Sonea

After the financial crisis left the American shores, it has landed in Europe devastating everything in its path. Among the first countries to collapse was Ireland, but the worst case ever is that of Greece-politicians bringing it on the verge of bankruptcy. If in US the bailout packages proved to be a rescuing solution, why wouldn’t bailout plans be successful in Europe too? The difference between USA and European Union is that of unity. Indeed the Americans are united, while in EU, the countries keep their national interests above everything and they try to get the best offers for them. It’s been a lon! g time since the European Union was founded, yet the euro has not been adopted in all countries (i.e. the Brits refuse to replace their pound). In order to regain confidence in the “euro” as currency and in the union, there is much need for a single currency across all EU countries members. Now all eyes are on Greece and whether the 750 billion euro package will save not only the country, but also the future of the euro. A first loan of 14.5 billion euros has already been handed to the country’s government. The question that remains is whether the Greek politicians will put aside the greed and actually use the money to get the country out of the terrible crisis. There is also the downside of the fact that European nations took too long to respond. Dupa ce criza financiara a parasit taramul american, aceasta a debarcat in Europa devastand totul din calea ei. Printre primele tari care s-au prabusit sub presiunea crizei a fost Irlanda, dar cel mai rau caz vreodata intalnit este cel al Greciei-politicienii au adus-o in pragul falimentului. Daca in SUA pachetele de salvgardare s-au dovedit a fi o solutie de salvare, de ce nu ar avea planurile de salvare success si in Europa? Diferenta dintre SUA si Uniunea Europeana este cea a unitatii. Intr-adevar, americanii sunt uniti, in timp ce in UE, tarile isi pastreaza interesele lor nationale, incearca sat raga spuza p! e turta lor primind ccele mai bune oferte pentru ele. A trecut o lunga perioada de timp de la infintarea Uniunii Europene, insa moneda euro nu a fost inca adoptata in toate tarile (adica britanici refuza inlocuirea monedei lor, lira). In scopul de a recastiga increderea in euro ", ca moneda si in Uniune, nu este nevoie de mult pentru o moneda unica in toate tarile UE membri. Acum, toti ochii sunt pe Grecia si daca pachetul de 750 miliarde euro, va salva sau nu nu numai numai tara, ci si viitorul monedei euro. Un prim imprumut de 14,5 miliarde de euro a fost deja predat guvernului tarii. Intrebarea care ramane este daca politicienii greci vor fi capabili sa puna deoparte lacomia si sa foloseasca efectiv bani pentru a scoate tara din criza teribila. Exista, de asemenea un dezavantaj mare al faptului ca natiunile europene au avut prea mult timp pentru a raspunde. Grecia se va redresa sau ar trebui sa ne facem gri! ji ca va fi pentru Europa, la fel cum a fost Lehman Brothers a! fost pe ntru SUA? Ramaneti conectat si veti afla mai multe in cele ce urmeaza....

Hodnota eura klesla najnižšie za posledné štyri roky by Zuzana Zelenakova

Po celej Európskej únii sa ozývajú v týchto dňoch dve slová, úsporné opatrenia. Kríza, ktorú spustilo Grécko je stále prítomná a štáty EU sa snažia obmedziť svoje výdavky ako sa len dá. V prvých rokoch 21. storočia sa mohlo Grécko pochváliť najrýchlejšie sa rozvíjajúcou ekonomikou v EU, avšak potom prišiel rok 2008 a s ním aj svetová finančná kríza, ktorá tvrdo doľahla na dve najrozvinutejšie odvetvia priemyslu v krajine, teda na turizmus a lodnú dopravu. V priebehu roku ! 2009 ich príjmy prudko klesli. Aby Grécko spĺňalo peňažné kritériá Európskej únie podávalo pozmenené údaje o svojej ekonomickej situácii. Začiatkom roka 2010 vyšlo najavo, že Grécko platilo rôznym zahraničným bankám obrovské množstvá peňazí, len aby utajili skutočný stav pôžičiek. A dospelo to kam to dospelo. Členské štáty poskytnú Grécko záchranný balík enormných čísel, aj keď niektoré to robia len veľmi neochotne, ako napríklad Nemecko. Teraz mena EU klesla najnižšie za posledné štyri roky oproti doláru. V pondelok padlo euro na 1,2237 dolára, neskôr sa trochu spamätalo a stúplo na 1,2307 dolára. „Obavy, že prísne úsporné opatrenia v eurozóne budú! mať dopad na rast v európskych krajinách st! 25;le vi sia nad eurom,“ hovorí John Kyriakopolus z Austrálskej národnej banky v Sydney. Potom čo EU a Medzinárodný peňažný fond schválili na začiatku mesiaca záchranný balík vo výške 750 miliárd euro finančné trhy zasiahla vlna akejsi eufórie a euro stúpalo. No potom sa obavy opäť vrátili a euro začalo klesať. „Centrálna banka sa snaží stotožniť so slabšou menou a signalizovať, že sa nebude ponáhľať so zvyšovaním úrokových sadzieb,“ hovorí Kathy Lienová z internetovej devízovej burzy GFT Forex v New Yorku. „Tak ako všetci ostatní aj oni sa obávajú aký bude o pol roka stav na finančných trhoch a aký bude rast.“

Euro brought down by debt crisis reaches four year low by Zuzana Zelenakova

All over eurozone two words echo these days, austerity measures. The debt crisis, triggered by Greece, is still here and member states of the EU are struggling to cut their spending. The Greek economy was the fastest growing in eurozone in the first years of the 21th century, however, the global financial crisis came in 2008 and the country´s two major industries, which are tourism and shipping, were disrupted by it with revenues falling sharply throughout 2009. To keep up with the EU´s monetary criteria, Greece was not delivering true economic statistics. It was discovered that the country paid great deal of money to various foreign banks just to hide the actual! level of borrowing. And it led where it led. EU member states are delivering bailout package of enormous size to Greece, although some do so with a great deal of reluctance, like Germany for example. Now the EU currency has reached its four year low against dollar. On Monday, the euro fell to $1.2237 to recover later to $1.2307. "Concerns that severe fiscal austerity in the eurozone will crush growth in the region continues to weigh (on the euro)," says John Kyriakopolus from the National Australia Bank in Sydney. After the EU and International Monetary Fund approved rescue package of 750 billion euros earlier this month a kind of euphoria seized the markets and the euro was rising. However, then the weight of the whole financial situation returned and the euro began to fall. “The central bank is trying to endorse a weaker currency and signal that they may not be as much in a rush to raise interest rates,” said Kathy Lien, director of currency research at onlin! e currency trader GFT Forex in New York. “Like everyone ! else in the world, they’re worried about the global financial markets and what growth could be like six months from now.”

Everyone who is working in a business sphere has to be observant and must think of second door which could in the future help to save his own ass when it is needed. Those, working with big money just must cover their backs. But when the crisis came, most of them have stayed with naked bottoms. Speculations and efforts to dig out of the troubles were occupying minds of many. And the fear that problems of others will keep me in those mine was reasonable. Fortunately, problems of euro-zone debt crisis seem to have no impact on the global economy, at least so far. U. S. stocks staged a comeback in late trading on Monday. Wal-Mart Inc and Target Corp rose ahead of earnings and a! lso the world’s largest retailer Wal-Mart seems to be on the right way to raise its profit. Wal-Mart shares rose 1.2 percent to $52.73 and Target has nothing to complaint about, as it gained 1.6 percent. European zone cannot be that happy. The euro slid to a four-year low at one point what “helped” indexes fall more than 1 percent a day before. Investors were fretted that cutting budgets of European nations will be disserviceable and will hinder economic growth. But the numbers of the Dow Jones industrial shows increase of 0.05 percent, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index added 1.26 points what represents increase of 0.11 percent. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.31 percent. The growth is slower as the economic recovery is still fragile, but slower we go, further we get.

Každý kto pracuje v obchodnej sfére musí byť na pozore. Musí byť opatrný a myslieť na zadné vrátka, ktoré ho môžu v budúcnosti zachrániť, ak to bude potrebovať. Ide najmä o tých jednotlivcov, ktorí pracujú s veľkými peniazmi. Najmä takí si musia kryť chrbát. No keď prišla kríza, väčšina z nich zostala takpovediac s holými zadkami. Nasledovali špekulácie a snahy vyhrabať sa z problémov. Možnosti ako to urobiť zamestnávali mysle mnohých. A strach, že probl! 3;my ostatných nás budú stále držať pod vodou bol tiež oprávnený. Našťastie sa zdá, že problémy so zadlženosťou euro zóny nemajú vplyv na globálnu ekonomiku. Aspoň zatiaľ nie. Americké trhy sa tešia pomalému návratu na scénu. Najväčší svetový maloobchod Wal-Mart Inc a Target Corp sú zjavne na tej správnej ceste nakoľko sa ich výnosy za posledný týždeň zvýšili. Akciové podiely Wal-Martu vzrástli o 1.2 percenta na 52.73 dolára a Target sa tiež nemá na čo sťažovať, nakoľko dosiahol navýšenie o 1.6 percenta. Európska zóna však nemá také šťastie. Euro kleslo na hodnotu jedného bodu, ktorá predstavuje jeho štvorročné minimum. Tento jeho pokles „napomohol&! #8220; v nedeľu indexom klesnúť o jedno cel! 3; perce nto. Investori sa preto právom obávali vplyvu európskych národov a ich rozpočtových politík na ekonomický rast. Avšak čísla ukazujú, že zatiaľ sa niet čoho obávať. Index Dow Jones vykazuje zvýšenie o 0.05 percenta, Index 500 Standard & Poor zasa vzrástol na 1.26 bodov, čo predstavuje navýšenie o 0.11 percent. Index Nasdaq Composite vzrástol o 0.31 percent. Keďže je otázka úplného ekonomického zotavenia stále krehkou záležitosťou, ekonomický rast je stále pomalý. Ako sa ale hovorí, pomaly ďalej zájdeš.

The whole discussion about markets, increasing and decreasing indexes is out of my understanding. Actually it is not even interesting for me. Looking all the time at numbers changing constantly – is that really so significant to follow it. Of course, we are living now in the era of big economic changes, the economy crises, budget deficits and cuts, mortgages amounting to gigantic prices – that is all effecting the way we live. I just cannot understand why it is so important to check it day by day. Shortly before the market closure many American but also European indexes climbed to incredible heights. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, Nasdaq, Standard & Poor̵! 7;s 500 index and also indexes in London, Paris, Frankfurt or Milan, Madrid and Lisbon increased significantly. But now not only Euro dropped back to below $1.27, but also stocks retreated and European shares fell 2 percent. Also Wall Street had to face a trim of Monday’s stellar gains. As Jim Wood-Smith, head of research at Williams de Broe said: “The European Union was never going to be able to give the markets a single knock-out blow. Markets have lost confidence in the European Union and the euro. Until that confidence comes back we are in for a volatile period.” Even the Greece has no reason for celebration. As head of base metals at London’s RBC Capital Markets, Alex Heath said, markets were being a bit cynical and rightly as “there is an awful lot of hard work and belt-tightening to be done. The markets have factored in a recovery that hasn’t been achieved yet.”

While here in Slovakia (and probably other European countries as well) are common people expressing their disagreement with financial support for Greece in different ways, guys from Wall Street were making gains before the world stocks was closed. European Union and the International Monetary Fund agreed on Monday to help Greece and the eurozone with a nearly $1 trillion rescue package. They believe it will prevent the spread of the Greek debt crisis. While Europe is doing its best to avoid crisis especially when global economy seems to recover slowly, America is profiting from it. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased to 10,785.14, Nasdaq jumped to 2,374.67 and Standa! rd & Poor’s 500 index climbed to a provisional close of 1,159.72. But it was not only America making record gains. Many Europe markets like Spain, Portugal and Italy posted record single-day gains. There are few numbers from European metropolises: London’s FTSE 100 index jumped 5.16 percent; Parisian the CAC 40 climbed 9.66 percent. DAX in Frankfurt gained 5.30 percent. Milan was up 11.28 percent, Madrid 14.43 and Lisbon 10.73 percent what all represents record daily gains. But more than single-day gains the Greek mortgage is what should be solved. As Patrick O’Hare, analyst at Briefing.com said: “Time will tell if this coordinated action is successful. For now, it is spurring a massive relief trade based on the notion that it might just be the answer. Anyway, while there is a sense of relief in the market about the monetary force being applied, there will be a fiscal price to pay for this bailout for those who need it.”

Greece is generating crucial moments among Eurozone members, EU politicians and financial markets all over the world. While Greek government has passed tough reduction package despite the largest public protests during past 20 years and European politics have been doing everything possible to stop the nervousity of world markets to save the image of common currency, it seems that the control of overseas financial decisions is impossible. As for American Wall Street, its major index Dow Jones came through turbulent days last week. It has lost almost 1,000 points in less than 90 minutes on Thursday. Dow Jones fell 998.50 points as the largest point drop ever. It broke the rec! ord from Oct. 2008 when one day loss totalled 780.87 points. Few moments before closing bell it recovered 347 points. Here, more than anywhere one could see irrational instability of financial markets. Indexes are sharply increasing as well as they are decreasing. There is no sense of balance like before. But some of analysts say that the only catalyst wasn't just Greek problems, but also machines controlling Wall Street. Let's tak a look on the process.2:20 p.m. Dow Jones was loosing 400 points. The next seven minutes the loss deepened another 600 points. 3:09 p.m. Dow Jones recovered 700 points. From that moment until the end it fluctuated sharply. Charlie Smith, chief investment officier at Fort Pitt Capital Group said it was the example of so called “automated trading” that is working and its major part is not independent on human actions on the markets. But it shouldn't be the only reason for this.

Problémy gréckej ekonomiky spúšťajú lavínu nervozity nielen medzi členmi euro zóny, politikmi EU, ale vyvolávajú doslova paniku na svetových finančných trhoch. Zatiaľ čo sa európski poslanci snažia zachrániť klesajúce euro za každú cenu, zámorskí investori skrátka neveria tomu, že Grécko (a možno zopár ďalších krajín eurozóny) neskončí v bankrote. Ale zdá sa, že zámorskí investori neveria ničomu a finančné trhy prestávajú byť akokoľvek st! abilné. Hoci grécka vláda včera za masívnych protestov troch miliónov obyvateľov, ktoré sprevádzali násilnosti, schválila balíček úsporných opatrení, Brusel jednal o medzinárodnej pôžičke vo výške 110 miliárd euro. Či to však bude stačiť na záchranu potápajúceho sa imidžu eura?Osobne nemám ružové výhliadky. Mnohí analytici opisovali situáciu v zmysle, Grécko sa musí uchrániť pred finančnými trhmi. Pretože tie svojou nestabilitou môžu zruinovať nielen spoločnosť, ale aj krajinu. Včerajšok bol podľa všetkého najhorším dňom na Wall Street, pokiaľ ide o stratu počas 24 hodín. Dow Jones v priebehu 90 minút stratil takmer 1000 bodov. One of the biggest companies note fall of the stocks. The Standard and! Poor's Index showed that "Walt Disney", "American Express" and "General Electric" loose a lot of money.
