It might be a short term joy, but let us cheer with Wall Street after the Labor Department revealed a 33,000 drop in claims for unemployment benefits and Ford Motor Co.'s $100 million profit in the first-quarter. Investors seem gloomy and optimistic; therefore the stock market was marked by an increase in share’s price. At the good humor of Wall Street contributed the ignoring of the Commerce Department's report (home sales at the lowest level in 16 years), of a future drop in the demand for manufactured goods, the rising of the dollar to a level way above many other major currencies and the fall in oil and commodities price. The bad omen on the housing market came as no surprise and didn’t create panic among investors who despite of the holding back at the start of the day closed trading with the following results: Dow Jones rose 85.73 points, the Standard & Poor's 500 index registered an increase of 8.89 points, while the Nasdaq composite index got to 2,428.92. It was for the first time after many months that on the New York Stock Exchange advancing issues surpassed the declining ones. The dollar rose causing the oil and gold prices to drop and eased investors concerns. Nothing should disturb the joy up to now; however, the Commerce Department gave bad news on the housing market, on the demand for durable like cars and computers. Also Amazon and Starbucks announced a drop in revenue for them this period. Luckily enough Ford had big profits due to Europe and South America that compensated the U.S. economy. Investors are still unsure and the situation of high share pries could change any day now.

American oil price peak is near, suggest analysts. Although to estimated breaking point, they expect a jump of 10 to 15 cents, before it could be stabilized whether retreated.Monday's news pumped the prices from initial $119.93 down to $118.75 overnight. The decline followed currently settled dollar against most of the world's currencies. Americans now buy fuels for $3.603 per gallon, reported Oil Price Information Service. Comparing to the last year, actual price rates are almost 66 cents higher, but they are lowering rates down to 0.4 cent per day instead of 2 cents per day, like they did two weeks ago.The potential reasons why point to seasonal switch over from making winter to more expensive, yet less polluting summer gasoline. Some refineries still donate winter gasoline supplies, that they have to sell till next season. Oil producers have also declared, that rising curde prices but process cost have considerable impact on breaking oil prices.Prices are tighten with labor circumstances as well. According analysts, Monday's rise strictly reacted on circumstances in Nigeria and the North Sea. The refinery in central Scotland lost almost 140,000 barrels in 48 hours employees walkout. Potential close up should have a 'significant impact' on regional production. Nigeria tormented by continiously protests for higher salaries and military attacks on pipeline systems, now produce less than 75 percent of its officially daily yield of 2,5 million barrels per day.However, one of the final impacts has been expected from FED representatives. Intended lowering rate by another quarter percentage should weaken dollar and rise up the fuel prices. "A quarter point cut could suggest ... we're getting to a point where the dollar might bottom out," said Michael Lynch from Strategic Energy and Economic Research. He also added, he expected early cutting edge and final stop of increases.

Pondelkové správy z new yorkskej burzy ohlásili, že ceny za barel klesli z počiatočných 119,93 na 118,75 dolárov, k čomu nepochybne prispelo konečné stabilizovanie dolára oproti väčšine svetových mien. Americkí vodiči dnes kupujú benzín po 3,606 dolárov za galón, ohlásil Informačný Úrad Cien Ropy.Pokiaľ sa však zameriame na denné cenové prírastky, zistíme, že minuloročný aprílový priemer sa pohyboval takmer o 66 centov nižšie ako súčasný denný prírastok 0.4 centa. Relatívne zlepšenie však nastalo v porovnaní so situáciou spred dvoch týždňov, kedy ropa denne zdražovala o takmer 2 centy.Dôvodov, vysvetľujúcich súčasné rekordné zdražovanie je viacero. Medzi najvážnejšie patrí technologická zmena výroby zimných pohonných zmesí na síce drahšie, ale menej znečisťujúce letné palivá. Nutné priznať, že mnohí výrobcovia stále disponujú zimnými zásobami, ktoré sú nútení predať. Podľa nich na zvyšujúce sa ceny nemá vplyv len drahšia surovina, ale aj rastúce výrobné náklady. A tak sa musíme zmieriť, že barel od minulého roku stúpol takmer o 65 dolárov a o spiatočnej situácii sa tak skoro hovoriť nedá.Cena ropy nepochybne reaguje na správy z jej pracovného sektoru. Stúpajúca hodnota odráža nedávnu 48 hodinovú odstávku jednej z najvýznamnejších rafinérií v strednom Škótsku. Počas dvoch dní produkcia severo morského regiónu prišla takmer o 170,000 barelov a pozorovatelia tvrdia, že jej trvalé odstavenie by malo 'značný neblahý vplyv' na celkovú situáciu v Severnom mori. Africká Nigéria počas posledných pár týždňov zaznamenala viacero zamestnaneckých protestov a demonštrácií, ohľadom zvýšenia platov a s takmer železnou pravidelnosťou sa opakujúce ozbrojené útoky na ropovody a plynovody. Všetky tieto udalosti prispeli k tomu, že Nigéria je dnes schopná vyprodukovať niečo menej ako 75 percent svojej oficiálnej dennej normy, takmer 2,5 milióna barelov. Analytici a pozorovatelia však úzkostlivo sledujú aj kroky americkej FED, ktorej plánované zníženie úrokových sadzieb o takmer štvrť percenta by mohlo definitívne oslabiť dolár, a vyslať ceny ropy k novým výškam."Ďalšie štvrť percento by mohlo znamenať...že sa dostávame k bodu, kde dolár konečne narazí na svoje dno," povedal Michael Lynch zo spoločnosti Strategic Energy and Economic Research. Dodal, že očakáva skorý bod zlomu a potenciálnu stabilizáciu cien.

During the week, the number of applications for unemployment benefits declined 9,000 down to total 365,000. However, topic no.1, that makes not only Americans worried, the oil prices fell down from Wednesday's maximum of $135 down to $130,81. Slight recession of currently most valued crude relaxed investors and pushed market into the state of possible gains.But still, referring some observers, the situation remains nervous."People are concerned about the economy and what's happening with oil," quoted Scott Fullman, director of derivatives investment strategy for WJB Capital Group in New York.American oil prices have increased the prices overseas, waving from Western do Eastern Europe in approximately weekly rate. Drivers are desperate and believe that the further rose will come before summer 2008. Oil also significantly affects price development of other energies. One can say, that this gray fear of general up-grading rises not only over heads of American people.Summing two days loss, Dow Jones totaled 427 points or 3.3 percent and this morning has finally turned direction gaining 24.43 points or 0.19 percent. Also S&P 500 and technological Nasdaq have followed increasing trend of Dow Jones. S&P 500 rose 3.64 or 0.26 percent to final 1,394 and Nasdaq reached 2,464.58 with an increase of 16.31 points or 0.67 percent.

Stredajšie maximum, ktoré prekonalo 135 dolárov za barel nahradili raňajšie správy, kde sa cena zastavila na 131, 81 dolároch. Dočasný cenový pokles uvoľnil investorov a predpokladá sa, že market sa čoskoro dostane do štádia možných i keď miernych ziskov.Hovoriť však o nejakom masívnom obrate by bolo trochu predčasné. Situácia nadaľej ostáva viac než hektická. "Ľudia sa vo veľkej miere začali zaujímať o ekonomiku, predovšetkým o to, čo sa deje s cenami ropy," vraví Scott Fullman, riaditeľ investičných stratégií new yorkskej WJB Capital Group.Americké ceny významne zdvihli ceny pohonných palív I v západnej a strednej Európe , prejavujúc sa v približne týždňovom odstupe. Znepokojení vodiči veria, že k hlavnému zdražovaniu dôjde ešte pred začiatkom tohto leta. Obavy vyvpláva nielen zdraženie dopravy, ale aj cien energií. Pokiaľ by sme chceli sumarizovať dvojdennú situáciu burzových ukazovateľov, index Dow Jones, ktorý od stredy stratil takmer 427 bodov (3,3 percenta) si dnes ráno polepšil o 24,43 boda alebo 0.19 percent. Takisto index S&P 500 a technologický Nasdaq nasledoval mierný obrat Dow Jonesa a posilnili o 3,64 alebo 0,26 percenta a 16,31 bodov (0,67 percent) na konečných 21394 pre S&P 500 a 2464,58 pre Nasdaq.

The financial report from last Monday brought bad news again about the situation on Wall Street. The profit of many biggest companies fell more than expected. Bank of America, which is the second largest U.S. bank, sustained a loss 23 % last trading week. Also another financial institution, the National City Corp., subscribed to the whole worsened position of Wall Street´s stocks value. On the contrary the position of the worlds largest pharmaceutical company – the Merck & Co., Inc. is getting stronger, when this giant firm almost doubled its profit during the first quarter. The S&P 500 index fell as well, whereas the NASDAQ rose thanks to good operating of Apple Inc. Generally was the last trading week really poor, as the volume of trade declined on account of Passover holiday. The previous bad week did not avoid the old continent as well. The European stocks were falling due to losses in large globally operating companies, as Air France, then British Royal Bank and Barclay´s, which just indicates, that the European countries are not immune from the American crises. It can be said that almost all of the stocks values of airlines worldwide reached some losses (e. g. the American Airlines, Continental Airlines or the United Airlines). The gold and oil indexes has slightly strengthen. Economic analysts are announcing, that the total consequences of this negative situation in financial world are going to culminate and reach the top in 2009, when the losses may climb up to 150 bil. dollars

News from the Wall street by Nina Nevidzanska

The financial report from last Monday brought bad news again about the situation on Wall Street. The profit of many biggest companies fell more than expected. Bank of America, which is the second largest U.S. bank, sustained a loss 23 % last trading week. Also another financial institution, the National City Corp., subscribed to the whole worsened position of Wall Street´s stocks value. On the contrary the position of the worlds largest pharmaceutical company – the Merck & Co., Inc. is getting stronger, when this giant firm almost doubled its profit during the first quarter. The S&P 500 index fell as well, whereas the NASDAQ rose thanks to good operating of Apple Inc. Generally was the last trading week really poor, as the volume of trade declined on account of Passover holiday. The previous bad week did not avoid the old continent as well. The European stocks were falling due to losses in large globally operating companies, as Air France, then British Royal Bank and Barclay´s, which just indicates, that the European countries are not immune from the American crises. It can be said that almost all of the stocks values of airlines worldwide reached some losses (e. g. the American Airlines, Continental Airlines or the United Airlines). The gold and oil indexes has slightly strengthen. Economic analysts are announcing, that the total consequences of this negative situation in financial world are going to culminate and reach the top in 2009, when the losses may climb up to 150 bil. dollars

Sprava o financnej situacii z posledneho pondelka priniesla opat negativne zavery o sitacii na Wall Street. Trzby, a teda aj zisk mnohych velkych spolocnosti klesli vyraznejsie nez sa ocakavalo. Bank of America, ktora je druhym najvacsim penaznym ustavom v Spojenych Statoch, dosiahla v predchadzajucom obchodovacom tyzdni stratu 23 % (ked jej obrat klesol na 77 %). Aj dalsia financna institucia – National City Corp. prispela k zhorseniu celkoveho stavu hodnoty akcii na Wall Street. Avsak naproti tomu sa pozicia najvacsieho svetoveho vyrobcu liekov, farmaceutickej spolocnosti Merck & Co., Inc, posilnuje, kedze tato giganticka spolocnost v uplynulom stvrtroku takmer zdvojnasobila svoje zisky. Hodnota indexu S&P 500 klesla takisto, kym dalsi index NASDAQ posilnil vdaka dobremu hospodareniu spolocnosti Apple, Inc., ktorej akcie su na tejto burze obchodovane. Vo vseobecnosti bol posledny tyzden na americkych burzach slaby, ked klesol pocet obchodov kvoli zidovskemu sviatku Passover. Uplynuly “zly tyzden” sa takisto nevyhol ani staremu kontinentu. Hodnota europskych akcii sa snizovala kvoli stratam velkych globalne posobiacich spolocnosti, ako su Air France, britske banky Royal Bank ci Barclay´s, co len opat potvrdzuje fakt, ze europske krajiny nie su dostatocne imunne voci americkej krize. Dalo by sa zhrnut, ze takmer vsetky akcie leteckych spolocnosti po celom svete utrpeli urcite straty (prikladom su aerolinie American Airlines, Continental Airlines ci United Airlines). Hodnota indexov zlata a ropy mierne posilnila. Ekonomicki analytici nadalej prehlasuju, ze celkove dopady tejto negativnej situacie vo financnej sfere budu narastat a dosiahnu svoj vrchol v roku 2009, kedyby sa straty mohli vysplhat az do vysky 150 miliard dolarov.
