Will rising oil prices make us think?
by Zuzana Fabcinova
After slipping last week, oil prices rose 41 cents to settle at $127.76 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, one of three most important stock exchanges in the world. Prices of petrol rise continually, getting to enormous heights. Where is the top? Is there some? But still the incredible oil prices haven't made people spend less petrol. We keep on saying that the prices of petrol are going to ruin us and that we must reduce the amount of petrol we buy. Saying so doesn't make it happen. Of course not. But it still looks better, if we say that, looks like if we were trying. Let's realize that it is not only economic issue what rising prices of oil cause, let's worry about ecological problems. Ecological questions are not suitable for the fast life we live now. It won't have as big impact on us as the financial problems. It will affect our descendants, but who cares? We will have been dead by then and no destroyed forests and polluted rivers will annoy us.At the same time it is so easy! It won't take much more time to ride a bike to work in big cities due to traffic jams that make cars move at the speed of about 10 meters a minute. A short walk isn't bad idea too. In addition to the fact that you save environment and money, it is healthy and you will definitely feel better. I know what I am saying, you'd better believe me. And if you really need to drive a car, please, take your colleague with you, so that he won't drive his own.
