The Wall Street is a colloquial term for the New York Stock Exchange,because obviously the building stands on this street. I imagine that place like very busy street with a lots of people,walking fast, wearing suits,holding a case in their left hand and yelling to their Blackberry in their right.Or from the inside. Hundreds of people standing in the stock exchange hall, watching the many big screens and small screens and yelling on eachother, making phonecalls, cursing, argueing.Well, NYSE (abbreviation for New York Stock Exchange) is the biggest stock exchange on the world. Exactly 216 years old. In 19th century the Dow-Jones Index was composed to measure the development of the US-market.Some other well known stock index you might now are NASDAQ (stands for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations), KOSPI (Korea Stock Price Index), DAX (Germany), Nikkei 225 (Japan), ATX (Austria), SAX (Slovakia) and many others.Are you lost when you read the economist section in the newspapers?The charts with many names and many numbers and with the small green and red triangles?Well its not that difficult to get the basic point on how it works.So imagine a chart or take some from the newspapers. Going from the left you always have a name of company, e.g. Austrian Airlines, the first following number is the current rate, plus or minus means if the stock rised or fell,then bid and ask-the actual offer and the request,the next number shows you the value from the previous day,the highs and lows and the sales.So if there`s a small green triangle you know that the stock are rising and it`s good to buy them.
